Student Payment Specialist (Online/Remote)

The Student Payment Specialist is responsible for assisting students with detailed financial matters, while providing exceptional customer service to students and staff, with a strong emphasis on campus support regarding student ledgers, payment plans, and collection of documents. The incumbent of this position is responsible for ensuring students are given a financial plan that is estimated to cover their current costs in full through collaboration with both the central support bursar department and the financial aid staff at the College.
Responsibilities
? Review billing/accounting specific reports regarding estimated balances to initiate, implement, and deliver student deferred payment plans (DPP) to students and collect and maintain all student payment plan documents into student management system
? Ensure all students are issued a financial plan that will cover their out-of-pocket costs
? Manage and assist with student inquiries regarding payment plans, balances due, and ledgers
? Deliver payment plan email communication to students
? Assist in weekly collection reporting for student payment plans
? Complete/follow bursar department daily/weekly/quarterly processes
? Assists in audit preparation and provides information and access to accounting records as required
? Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
? Complete audits of campus financial aid staff Personal Financing Estimators (PFE) and related supporting documents for the business office, including proper designation of student method of payment
? Act as a backup to the campus financial aid staff to initiate, implement, and deliver DPP to students and collect and maintain all student payment plan documents into student management system
? Provides financial counseling for students regarding payment options and payment plans.
? Resolves standard issues for students, escalating issues to the Associate Director when appropriate
? Inform students of their financial obligation, the institution?s financial aid options, and financial policies and procedures as related to their educational expenses
? Counsel students on potential resources for funding the students? educational needs
? Maintain approved tracking system for applications and missing documents to allow for timely follow-up and completion in accordance with college policies and procedures
? Accurately and professionally communicate with internal and external parties and in a timely manner
? Represents the College to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students and their parents, and/or the general public
? Provides outstanding support to students and staff in a variety of student account functions regarding processing payments, reviewing tuition, fees, and financial aid adjustments, while maintaining student account privacy under federal FERPA regulations
? Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
? Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
? Knowledge of office procedures and equipment
? Knowledge of PC?s and appropriate software
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Ability to interact diplomatically with a variety of individuals at various organizational levels
? Ability to identify moderately complex administrative issues and problems and resolve or escalate to appropriate individual
? Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
? Knowledge of basic budgeting procedures
? Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
? Aptitude for accuracy and detail
? Strong time management and organizational skills
? Ability to work on simultaneous projects at once
Education
? Associate’s Required, Bachelor’s Preferred
? Two years accounting/financial experience or equivalent education and experience preferred
