Position Title: Art Assistant-Sculpture Position Type: Part time Location: Bucknell University Categories: Staff Non-exempt Job Summary: Do you have a Bachelor?s degree in Studio Art? Do you wish to use your skills in a university classroom and lab environment? Bucknell University seeks an Art Assistant to assist the sculpture professor with class activities and the day-to-day operations of the Sculpture Lab, and ensure the safe student use of the facility on nights and weekends. This position is for one academic year, from approximately mid-August to early May, with the possibility of renewal for a second year (contingent upon favorable evaluations). This is a 25-hour per week, limited benefits eligible staff position. The Art Assistant?s primary role is to assist the sculpture professor with class activities and the day-to-day operations of the Sculpture Lab, and ensure the safe student use of the facility on nights and weekends. The Art Assistant helps students with technical… issues on projects, maintains equipment and materials, orders supplies, and cleans the Sculpture Lab as necessary. Sculpture classes currently emphasize steel fabrication, woodworking, moldmaking, and digital fabrication (computer aided design, 3d printing, etc). Job Duties: Assist the sculpture professor with class activities and the day-to-day operations of the Sculpture LabOversee safe student use of equipment in the Sculpture Lab during classes and on nights and weekends. Keep the Sculpture Lab clean and organized, and maintain tools as needed. Maintain an inventory of supplies; order and purchase new supplies as needed. Coordinate with the facilities staff about maintenance issues that need to be addressed in the Sculpture Lab. Photograph student projects as needed. Exhibit professionalism and serve as a role model in the classroom. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in Studio Art Familiarity with a range of sculpture-related equipment and media, including welding, woodworking, mold-making, etc., and have an understanding of, and concern for equipment and material safety Must be dependable, have a strong work ethic, and possess good communication skills Required Application Materials Resume, listing professional accomplishments and all work experience Cover letter An artist portfolio consisting of either 1) a link to a portfolio website included in the cover letter, or 2) 10 to 20 images of artwork emailed to Joe Meiser at jdm037@bucknell.edu along with textual descriptions that list the title, year completed, media, and dimensions for each work of art. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience with 3-D printing, CNC milling, and be experienced with 3D modeling programs such as Rhinoceros; however, candidates lacking this background will still be considered for the position. Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds Ability to move equipment around Use of proper safety equipment for head, eyes, hands, and body protection Exposure to chemicals and tools such as saws, routers, grinders, welders, plasma cutters, a robotic milling system, and pressurized cylinders Job Exempt: No Salary Range: 18.00-21.45 The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate’s credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
